Movie Fanatic is heading to Comic-Con and we have secured exclusive interviews and first-hand previews of some of the future's biggest films. From The Hobbit to Man of Steel, your movie authority will be bringing you the best of film from San Diego's annual conclave of pop culture. The following is a list of films that will be giving us the 411 beginning July 11 and carrying through July 15, and what specifically you can expect from us for each one!
Saturday finds us getting the scoop on Peter Jackson’s return to Middle Earth. There to discuss The Hobbit will be Sir Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis, Richard Armitage and, of course, Jackson. J.R.R. Tolkien's first book in his series finally makes its leap to the big screen... and features the beginnings of Gollum.
Breaking Dawn Part 2
The film that first showed the world what a phenomenon it was at Comic-Con 2008 is back with its final chapter. Thursday brings details beyond what we've gleaned from the Breaking Dawn Part 2 trailer. Not only are we getting the scoop from those most responsible for the film series being such a blockbuster: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, but also on hand to talk Twilight is Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed, Jackson Rathbone, Ashley Greene and Mackenzie Foy.
Man of Steel
Nothing specific has been announced for Man of Steel, but rumors are flying. Our money is on Warner Bros. using its three-hour spot on Saturday to spend an hour on each of their films: The Hobbit, Pacific Rim and Man of Steel. As details come in… we’ll bring them to you ASAP.
Since District 9 filmmaker Neill Blomkamp announced he was bringing his Matt Damon-starring Elysium to Comic-Con, attendees have been buzzing. The futuristic thriller’s helmer, as well as Jodie Foster and Damon, will all be taking us inside Elysium.
If there was a film custom made for the Comic-Con audience, it is Focus Features’ ParaNorman. The stop-motion animated supernatural romp stars Kodi Smit-McPhee, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and one of our favorites, Anna Kendrick. All of the above will be in San Diego with us on Friday to talk ParaNorman, along with the creative team of director/writer Chris Butler and director Sam Fell.
Quentin Tarantino and his band of merry men and women take us inside his next feature as shown most eloquently in the Django Unchained international trailer. July 14 gets our readers further inside the shrouded-with-mystery Western than ever before. Not only will we be chatting with Tarantino, but also Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington and Christoph Waltz.
July 14 also finds Movie Fanatic getting the lowdown on one of Hollywood’s best-kept secrets: Guillermo del Toro's next directorial effort, Pacific Rim. The filmmaker and his cast, led by Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi and Ron Perlman, take us into a future as can only be captured by a director at the top of his game.
Resident Evil: Retribution
On July 13 the cast of one of the year’s most anticipated films, Resident Evil: Retribution, finally breaks their silence. Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Oded Fehr, Boris Kodjoe, Mika Nakashima and Paul W.S. Anderson will all be dishing what you want to know about the fifth film in the series -- beyond the amazing Resident Evil 5: Retribution trailer! Alice (Jovovich) faces her most challenging fight yet as the action sequences push the envelope.
Although I’m sure we’ll be embargoed and cannot tell you a thing about the film, we will check out the flick at Comic-Con and get a special visit from star Karl Urban. What he tells us about his remake of the Sly Stallone misfire, that much we will post immediately!
Oz the Great and Powerful
Given its prequel feel to one of film’s greatest stories ever told, anticipation is high for Oz the Great and Powerful. It stars James Franco and Mila Kunis and is directed by Sam Raimi. July 12 finds us opposite Raimi to wring out every detail we can on this wildly original-looking film.
The Expendables 2
The appearance of The Expendables 2 at Comic-Con marks two firsts: This is Arnold Schwarzenegger’s first Comic-Con and second, it's the first time a former California governor has participated in a panel. The big four give us insight and clips: Sylvester Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Dolph Lundgren and Terry Crews. As seen in The Expendables 2 TV spot, we too are ready to shoot something!
Iron Man 3
This is another film whose exact presence at Comic-Con is a mystery, but we can tell you this: Producer and Marvel head Kevin Feige will be talking to us about part three of the Tony Stark journey.
Captain America 2
See Iron Man 3… who knows who or what will be there, but we do know the sequel to 2011’s Captain America will be represented. Stay tuned...
See Captain America 2 and Iron Man 3… and we’re guessing Feige will be chatting up all three of the next films coming out of the Marvel cannon.
Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the same character, separated by decades? Count us in! Comic-Con 2012 is our chance to hear about the film from director Rian Johnson and stars Gordon-Levitt and Emily Blunt.
The remake’s stars -- Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel and Bryan Cranston -- join director Len Wiseman to talk about bringing a 1990s camp classic into the 21st century. The Total Recall trailer has us extremely intrigued and we're eager to have this killer cast tell us more.
A wildly fascinating concept, Wreck-It Ralph follows an 8-bit video game villain who dreams of being so much more. The Disney animated film stars John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman and both will catch up with us while in San Diego on July 12.
Thursday will be a bang-up day in the world of Frankenweenie. Not only are we checking out an exclusive look at the Art of Frankenweenie exhibit, but director Tim Burton will chat up the entire project. One of the filmmaker’s first forays was a short by the same name. How it got to a big screen release is an arduous journey in determination.
A love story based on a zombie who is girl-crazy for one of his victims? Sounds like another Comic-Con winner. John Malkovich, Dave Franco and Teresa Palmer all star and are set to dish the most unlikely of romances.
Sam Raimi makes his second Comic-Con 2012 appearance as the producer of this horror flick. Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick play divorced parents of a child who may or may not be the most evil thing ever.
