Check out the new trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson's new film The Master, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies:
The film stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as Lancaster Dodd, an intellectual who begins a religious organization following World War II. Joaquin Phoenix plays Freddie Quell, a disturbed drifter who is taken in by Dodd. As Dodd's following grows, Quell begins to question the validity of his mentor's teachings.
Anderson, who began his career with satirical, stylized, subtly humorous dramas like Boogie Nights and Punch Drunk Love, turned to darkly dramatic realism with his last film There Will Be Blood. From the looks of the trailer, The Master follows in the footsteps of that last film.
The Master hits theaters October 12. For a closer look at Phoenix's compelling performance, check out this earlier The Master trailer.
