by at . Comments

The Tournament of Movie Fanatic continues today with what may be the most unlikely matchup of the whole bracket: Duck Soup vs. Swingers. But first, let's announce the winner of yesterday's Diner vs. Airplane! matchup.

In the first upset of the tournament, the #6-ranked 1980's farce Airplane beat out the #3-ranked character comedy Diner to join Annie Hall, The Big Lebowski, Rushmore, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail in the second round.

Scroll down to vote for today's matchup, then take a look at an updated bracket below!

Duck Soup: The Marx Brothers--Groucho, Harpo, Chico and Zeppo--are all stars of this 1933 comedy classic. Groucho plays Rufus T. Firefly, a man named to become president (let’s be real: Dictator) of the fictional country Freedonia. In order to get attention off the fact that his country is bankrupt, he declares war on his neighbor, Sylvania. Like most comedies worth their weight, much of the humor is derived from a battle over the heart. In this case, Firefly is upset over losing the affections of the wealthy Mrs. Teasdale to the leader of Sylvania. Sounds like Troy, no? Although it was a box office disappointment, Duck Soup is considered to be the Marx Brothers' best film. In fact, in 1990, the United States Library of Congress added it to the National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” Head to our Duck Soup quotes page for more.

Swingers: This movie is so money and it doesn't even know it. Okay, maybe it does know it. Regardless, Swingers is the definitive 90s comedy about the perpetually-unemployed lives of the first generation that felt comfortable pursuing artistic careers en masse. The film that launched the careers of Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau, Swingers follows a group of guys living the carefree LA lifestyle only to realize that the vapidity of the entertainment industry and their own depression stand in the way of their dreams. Vaughn and Favreau are absolutely hilarious as the fast-talking, always-show-up-in-a-suit Trent and the sensitive, hung-up-on-a-lost-love Mike. Take a look at our Swingers quotes page for more.
