The final matchup of the second round of the Tournament of Movie Fanatic is here! Until we announce who moves on to the semi-finals on Friday, voting for all four matchups in the second round will be open: Airplane! vs. Rushmore, Annie Hall vs. Groundhog Day and The Big Lebowski vs. Hot Fuzz.
Today's matchup represents two fairly different comedy sensibilities: The suave, fast-talking comedy of Swingers vs. the all-out silliness of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Scroll down to read about each film and cast your vote! Then, check out the full bracket below to catch up on the tournament.
Swingers: Acting as both a celebration and condemnation of the stereotypical 90s lifestyle, Swingers is a smart movie that asks real questions about the human condition, disguising itself as a frat comedy. The break-out effort from Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau (who later went on to direct the likes of Iron Man) beat Duck Soup by a slim margin to move on to round two. Monty Python and the Holy Grail: The seminal work of the British sketch comedy team Monty Python, the Holy Grail is easily one of the most quotable comedies of all time. Pulling from this background in sketch, Holy Grail combines a series of hilarious vignettes surrounding Medieval England to lampoon the legend of King Arthur. The Holy Grail gave a proper thrashing to Wet Hot American Summer in the first round, and now it faces another modern favorite in its quest to reach the semis.
