It is appropriate that Chasing Mavericks star Jonny Weston is meeting us for an exclusive video interview feet away from the Pacific Ocean. On this glorious, but steamy, September day, Weston and Movie Fanatic are sitting on the famous Santa Monica beach to discuss his surfing movie Chasing Mavericks. In the film, based on a true story, he plays a young surfer named Jay Moriarity who is schooled in riding killer waves by Gerard Butler’s Frosty Hesson.
Weston, a surfer himself, was beyond thrilled to participate in Chasing Mavericks as he admits more often than not, Hollywood gets surfing movies all wrong. “Not so accurately for the most part,” Weston said of films that focus on surfing. “That’s why we’re excited for this movie. We had the real Mavericks crew working on this… some of the gnarliest surfers in the world.”
Chasing Mavericks lands in theaters October 26 and stay with Movie Fanatic for more of our exclusive interviews with the cast including Butler and Leven Rambin.
