Movie Fanatic is proud to present an exclusive trailer from the upcoming Steven Soderbergh medical thriller, Side Effects. The film stars Rooney Mara, Channing Tatum, Catherine Zeta Jones, Jude Law and is written by frequent Soderbergh confidant Scott Z. Burns (The Informant, Contagion). It's a thrill ride that will have you guessing until the final moments.
From the moment we saw the first Side Effects trailer, Movie Fanatic knew this was not your usual cat-and-mouse thriller. There are layers here that zig-zag from the gray areas of the big prescription medicine business concerning ethics, legal ramifications such as malpractice and even murder.
And as the Side Effects poster is split into four quadrants, the film follows a quartet of angles on the same story -- through Mara, Tatum, Jones and Law. Yet, as any good psychological thriller does, it manages to present all sides -- which only further entrances the viewer.
Mara is a suffering-in-silence wife whose husband (Tatum) has just been released from prison after his conviction for insider trading. When he gets released, complications arise and Mara becomes depressed. She sees Law's psychiatrist who prescribes a new medication that does much more than turn her frown upside down. It, in fact, turns her entire world upside down.
