With the Oscar Nominations announced this morning, why not take a moment to look at a franchise that will never see the Best Picture category: Transformers!

Transformers director Michael Bay has stated that he intends not only to follow up the first three films with a fourth, but that the new installment will kick off a second trilogy! That means fans can expect a Transformers 4, 5, and 6.

Michael Bay Directs Transformers Dark of the Moon

The series kicked off with Transformers in 2007, followed by Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in '09 and Transformers: Dark of the Moon in '11, starring Shia LaBeouf and (in the first two films) Megan Fox. Patrick Dempsey, John Malkovich, Josh Duhamel, John Turturo, Ken Jeong, Peter Cullen, Hugo Weaving (Cloud Atlas), Jon Voight, and Bernie Mac have also appeared in the series.

Mark Wahlberg is already on board for Transformers 4, and Bay has said that he wanted an unknown to co-star against him. That unknown is an Irish actor named Jack Reynor.

"He is an Irish kid that came to America with 30 bucks in his pocket. Pretty ballsy. Seriously who does that? Anyway I spotted him in a great little Irish movie What Richard Did. This kid is the real deal," wrote Bay on his blog. Transformers 4 is slated to premiere June 27, 2014, and will pick up four years after the events of the last film.
