The new stills from Pacific Rim bring some levity to what otherwise looks like a very sleek sci-fi thriller. Of course, the film is paying homage to campy Japanese Kaiju films of old, so we should definitely expect a fair amount self-awareness.
Check out the new stills, which feature a big pile of Kaiju poop, and a Kaiju skeleton.
After giant monsters emerge from the sea, an army of equally giant robots, called Jaegers, is dispatched to fight them. With all hope lost, an ex-Jaeger pilot, played by Charlie Hunnam, and a young trainee, played by Rinko Kikuchi, must un-retire an old robot and save the Earth from destruction. Also from giant piles of poop, it seems.
Guillermo del Toro directs the film, which premieres July 12. Watch the Pacific Rim trailer for more.
