British actor Richard Griffiths has died at age 65, due to complications following heart surgery. He was best known for playing the role of Vernon Dursley in the Harry Potter movies.

The actor died in the hospital due to complications following heart surgery.

Potter's Daniel Radcliffe told the BBC, "Richard was by my side during two of the most important moments of my career. I was proud to know him. Any room he walked into was made twice as funny and twice as clever just by his presence."

Griffiths had a long career that also included such films as Superman II, Sleepy Hollow, and Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides.

Griffiths is survived by his wife Heather Gisbson. He will be missed.
