Winona Ryder has charmed us for decades and with her role in The Iceman, she may have found her most challenging part yet. As shown in The Iceman trailer, she portrays the wife of a mob assassin played by Michael Shannon, who spent over 20 years raising his two daughters -- completely unaware of what he was really doing to make a living.
Movie Fanatic met Ryder for an exclusive video interview where she talked about her experience working with Shannon, who is blowing up lately -- especially with his upcoming turn as the villain General Zod in Man of Steel.
"It’s great to see him getting the recognition and respect. But, I have to say since Bug -- within the acting community -- we are so happy for him. He’s one of those guys who is consistently good,” Ryder said. “I am so grateful to see how he works. You honestly do not know what he’s going to do.”
We first admired Ryder in Lucas and then she made her name with stellar work in Heathers, Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands. She has been on quite a roll of late with her turn in The Iceman, but also Black Swan, The Dilemma and her re-teaming with Tim Burton in Frankenweenie. Movie Fanatic wondered what a film has to say to her for Ryder to say “yes.”
“Generally speaking, there are certain people that it’s a no-brainer,” Ryder said. “For certain people I would read the phone book!” Think Burton is one of those people?!
