Neil Patrick Harris is back in the world of Smurfs, as seen in The Smurfs 2 trailer, and he led a global salute to the universe created by Belgian artist Peyo in this past weekend’s Global Smurfs Day. Tens of thousands of fans dressed up in blue marked the day in 28 different countries to celebrate the day that the world unites behind those tiny little creatures that have charmed us for decades.

Peyo’s daughter Veronique Culliford appointed Smurf Ambassadors from 28 countries and the event even culminated in a flash mob dancing to Britney Spears’ theme song from the upcoming The Smurfs 2, Ooh La La.
The Smurfs 2 hits theaters July 31 and it is appropriate that the Global Smurfs Day culminated in the City of Lights, as the film takes place there!
Some of the most iconic sights of the world marked the day including the beaches of Athens, Moscow’s Gorky Park, the tramways of Hong Kong and the Leaning Tower of Pisa, plus Smurfs even took over the Great Wall of China.
Harris was found here in Los Angeles at the fabled The Grove where hundreds of families enjoyed Menchie’s Smurfberry frozen yogurt, Smurf-ified electric DASH cars and played the Ubisoft Smurfs video game.
The first Global Smurfs Day commenced in 2011, with the release of The Smurfs… which went on to become a global blockbuster. The Smurfs 2 finds the evil Gargamel trying his best to harness the power of The Smurfs, this time creating Smurf knock-offs called the Naughties that he hopes will give him an in into the world he so covets.
