Tom Hanks (also appearing this fall in Saving Mr. Banks) stars in Captain Phillips, and Columbia Pictures must be thinking Oscar nominations for this October 11 release.
Hanks is the titular character, the helmer of the sea vessel that was taken over by Somali pirates in the beginning days of the Obama administration. The true story, as we know, has a happy ending with Navy SEALs coming to the rescue. But, it doesn’t make the harrowing tale any less frightening.
Columbia has released not one, but two, posters for Captain Phillips and each has us drooling over the prospect of checking this flick out.
The film is directed by Paul Greengrass (the Bourne movies) and also stars Catherine Keener, Max Martini and Yul Vazquez.
The second poster features Hanks and his crew (from afar) racing to what they hope is safety in the higher regions of the U.S. flagged MV Maersk Alabama. Back in 2009, it was the first American ship to be taken over by pirates in two centuries, further making this story even more powerful.
Check out the Captain Phillips trailer and we’d be surprised if you don’t get a little thrilled to check out this true and thrilling story.
