The trailer for The Book Thief has landed and prepare yourself to be moved. Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush and Oscar nominee Emily Watson star as parents to an orphan as Nazism begins to take hold in central Europe. In a time when authorities were burning books, Sophie Nelisse’s orphan does her part to keep the words and the pages where they reside alive.
20th Century Fox has debuted the trailer for The Book Thief, which lands November 15. From what we can see so far, another Oscar contender has emerged for the fall. Is it us, or is 2013 shaping up to be one of the better years of cinema in this century?
From Tom Hanks' double-barreled powerful roles in Saving Mr. Banks and Captain Phillips, to Spike Jonze’s Her, David O. Russell’s American Hustle, George Clooney’s The Monuments Men and the Coen brothers' Inside Llewyn Lewis… this is going to be one tough Oscar season to call. And honestly, those above films are just the tip of the iceberg.
From the outset, we have to put The Book Thief… (at least on paper!) in the lead.
