Since it bowed at the Toronto Film Festival, Oscar buzz has circled 12 Years a Slave for Best Picture, Best Actor for Chiwetel Ejiofor, Best Supporting Actor for Michael Fassbender and Steve McQueen for Best Director.
After witnessing that powerful 12 Years a Slave trailer, one can see why. Fox Searchlight has released the film’s first clip, and in it, Ejiofor explores why he wants to live… when it seems that giving in to death would be the easier option.
See, 12 Years a Slave is the true story of a fully educated black man who was abducted in the pre-Civil War United States and taken into slavery where he would spend the titular 12 years.
Fassbender finds new levels of evil as the owner of Ejiofor’s Solomon Northup in the film that lands October 18 and also stars Brad Pitt, Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness), Paul Dano (Prisoners), Paul Giamatti, Sarah Paulson and Alfre Woodard.
