The Avatar Pandora experience will be coming to life in 2017, courtesy of James Cameron and the folks at Disney. It was announced that an Avatar theme park will be opening at Disney’s Animal Kingdom (in Florida) and will include a nighttime version of the famous Kilimanjaro Safaris that takes visitors firmly into the world of Avatar.
As Cameron is busy at his Avatar sequels, the first concept art was published and at least on paper… it looks awesome.
Guests will be able to take a boat ride through the illuminated nighttime world of the planet, with an animatronics show that should remind visitors of a futuristic Pirates of the Caribbean.
Feel like riding a Banshee and flying through that refreshing Pandoran air? Why, that will be possible... and don't be surprised if you start shouting Avatar quotes!
The Avatar theme park will also have an evening show that is classic Disney theme park.
Tom Staggs, the head of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, is clearly thrilled by the looks of the concept art and eager to get the project going. “Our combined team has taken huge steps forward in ‘imagineering’ Pandora as a real place for our guests to see, hear and touch,” Staggs said in a statement.
“As these concept renderings show in epic scale, the world of Avatar guests will encounter awe-inspiring floating mountains and wander through a nighttime jungle of bioluminescent plants that are alive with light and sound. Guests will also discover what it feels like to soar into the sky riding a Banshee.”
