The Hangover Part III DVD Review: The Wolfpack Says Goodbye

by at . Comments

It all ends, so says the tagline for The Hangover Part III which lands today on DVD, Blu-Ray Combo Pack and digital download. One of the most successful comedy series in the history of Hollywood has packed more zaniness into three films than any series prior. But, what sets The Hangover Part III apart for Movie Fanatic is that it takes the premise that made it famous and completely changes it for the third movie.

The Hangover Part III DVD

Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha are back, and this time out, instead of a wake-up-and-what-happened storyline, as The Hangover Part III trailer shows, this is a kidnapping comedy. John Goodman joins the cast as a man who has some serious issues with Ken Jeong’s Leslie Chow. Thinking that our favorite quartet can get to him, he kidnaps Bartha’s Doug and our adventure begins that takes Cooper’s Phil, Helms’ Stu and Galifianakis’ Alan into Mexico and back across the desert to where it all started… Las Vegas!

Reported in our The Hangover Part III review, this is a fun ride and we gave it serious props for trying to change things up for the third and final chapter. There is something about these guys together that Movie Fanatic could go on watching them forever. The chemistry is electric, particularly between Cooper, Helms and Galifianakis that has not faded with the passage of time. If anything, the third The Hangover movie proves that things get better with age.

Most comedies, when they land on DVD and Blu-Ray, contain a bevy of bonus features with varying success. The Hangover Part III pushes the envelope and the viewer is the winner.

Particularly awesome is the Replacing Zach: The Secret Auditions feature that comedically plays with the idea of bringing in other actors to step in for Galifianakis. It is uncanny and that should not surprise given the comedic wizardry of the series’ creator, Todd Phillips… whose handprints are all over this home video release.

The Outtakes feature is often not necessary on comedy releases of late, but on The Hangover Part III it is simply awesome. Again, it comes back to the magic of Cooper, Helms and Galifianakis and also Jeong, whose comedic talents, we believe, are just beginning to be shown to the world.

The Wolfpack The Hangover Part III

And since this is the final chapter of the series, what better way to reminisce over the madness that is The Hangover series than with the bonus feature The Wolfpack’s Wildest Stunts? You think you remember everything madcap they did over the last several years? Think again as this feature reminds you of the manic madness that is the Wolfpack and why we adore them so much.

And Inside Focus: The Real Chow further proves our point about Jeong and his out-of-nowhere comedic mastery. And speaking of funnymen finding their stride, Zach Galifianakis in His Own Words is another piece of hysterical deliciousness that is contained on the must own The Hangover Part III DVD and Blu-Ray.
