One of the most beloved films of all time, The Princess Bride, will be coming at audiences live in the very near future. Rob Reiner’s classic film is hitting the lights of Broadway as a live play, and perhaps a full-fledged musical. Disney Theatrical Productions announced the plans to bring the film, based on the 1973 novel by William Goldman, to the Great White Way.

"To now have a stage production of this film in development at Disney is honestly a dream come true," said Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn. Given their success bringing The Lion King to the stage, our hopes are high.

There is little in terms of details about the leap to the stage, but if we were to bet given Disney’s past efforts with Broadway, this will be a musical. In that sense, it is hardly a surprise. If there was a film that is meant to add song, it is the story of Princess Buttercup and her search for her one true love.

The Princess Bride quotes have delighted generations, and now a new legion of fans is sure to become rabid, thanks to the magic of Broadway.

The Princess Bride Quotes

Good heavens. Are you still trying to win?

Count Rugen

The Grandson: A book?
Grandpa: That's right. When I was your age, television was called books. And this is a special book. It was the book my father used to read to me when I was sick, and I used to read it to your father. And today I'm gonna read it to you.
The Grandson: Has it got any sports in it?
Grandpa: Are you kidding? Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles...
The Grandson: Doesn't sound too bad. I'll try to stay awake.
Grandpa: Oh, well, thank you very much, very nice of you. Your vote of confidence is overwhelming.
