The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will not only be swinging into IMAX 3D theaters when the film arrives May 2, 2014, it was announced today, but the webbed wonder will also be part of the iconic ball drop in Times Square this New Year’s Eve.
Sony Pictures and IMAX Corporation made the announcement this morning, hot on the heels of last week’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer, that Andrew Garfield’s return as Peter Parker/Spider-Man will be seen on the biggest screens around and the IMAX people could not be more thrilled.
“After the enormous worldwide success of The Amazing Spider-Man, we’re looking forward to partnering again with Marc Webb, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach, and our friends at Sony Pictures to offer IMAX fans around the world an opportunity to experience this highly anticipated film in the immersive IMAX 3D format,” said Greg Foster, CEO of IMAX Entertainment and Senior Executive Vice President of IMAX Corp.
It was also announced (and teased in the photo above) that Spider-Man will be participating in the annual Times Square ball drop at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve as part of the city’s iconic ringing in the new year. Additionally, scenes from the upcoming film will be shown on the giant video screens throughout Times Square over the course of the evening.
