Critics Choice Movie Awards: 12 Years a Slave, American Hustle Take Top Prizes

The critics have spoken and their favorite drama of the year is 12 Years a Slave and best comedy is American Hustle. Well, not all critics, just the Broadcast Critics Association members who held their annual awards fete -- the Critics Choice Movie Awards -- and handed out a few dozen awards to Hollywood’s best and brightest, many who just learned they had earned Oscar nominations.

After scoring the Golden Globe in the same category, Matthew McConaughey won Best Actor for Dallas Buyers Club and Leonardo DiCaprio scored for Best Actor in a Comedy for The Wolf of Wall Street. Perhaps that is setting those two on a collision course come Oscar night.

Gravity also scored pretty big as it won the effects awards and a huge win for director Alfonso Cuaron, who has to be thought of as a favorite to take home Best Director at the Academy Awards.
