Academy Awards: 12 Years a Slave Wins Best Picture!
by Joel D Amos at . Updated at . CommentsThe Oscars have been handed out and the big winner of the night was 12 Years a Slave, taking the award for Best Picture.
Although it did not win the biggest award, the biggest winner in terms of awards was Gravity which took home seven Oscars.
But, there was also another big winner tonight and that was Dallas Buyers Club. Both stars of the film won for the highest honor in their craft, Matthew McConaughey for Best Actor and Jared Leto for Best Supporting Actor.
Lupita Nyong'O won her Best Supporting Actress Award for her first nomination for her work on 12 Years a Slave and gave the acceptance speech of the night. There was not a dry eye in the house. Cate Blanchett scored a victory for Best Actress for Blue Jasmine and Best Director went to Alfonso Cuaron for Gravity.
One of the biggest surprises of the night... was the utter lack of a single award for David O. Russell's American Hustle.
Who would have thought, but The Great Gatsby won two Osars, one for Best Production Design and one for Best Costumes. That film was joined in the double-winner department by Frozen -- which won Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for Let it Go.
