As Above, So Below filmmakers John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle caught up with us this weekend at Comic-Con for an exclusive video interview that takes us inside the origins of this wildly original horror movie idea.
As you can see in the As Above, So Below trailer, the Dowdle brothers (John and Drew wrote, John directs and Drew produces) have come up with the most original of ideas. Their protagonist is a female archeologist who goes with her team deep underneath Paris to the haunting and legendary catacombs and what they discover is simply horrifying.
“We always thought it would be great to do an Indiana Jones-esque movie with a female lead that is done in a found footage style,” John said. “Thomas Tull, head of Legendary Pictures, called us and said he’d love to do something with the Paris catacombs and the two ideas perfectly clicked together.”
The Dowdle brothers also tell us exclusively the challenges of making a found footage film, or any film for that matter, in the tight spaces of the Paris catacombs.
Also, as their characters get deeper and the horrors intensify, the difficulty for them to make the movie mirrored that as well.
