Paramount was wise to not mention anything as to what they would be presenting at Comic-Con today because it left those of us who write about such things a million possibilities to ponder.
When we listed our 23 movies we want at Comic-Con, one of them was Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar.
And you can see why when you check out that Interstellar trailer. This thing is eye-popping and looks powerful with Matthew McConaughey in the lead.
Well, Nolan and McConaughey made their Comic-Con debut and surprised those gathered in Hall H for a little tease as to the November 7-arriving flick.
McConaughey started by talking about his director and what compelled him once he read the story, and how his interest in the project came in that order. “He’s always out for original,” he said. “Everything he has to do, it has to be original.”
Then, he introduced the man himself. And considering all the Comic-Con-worthy fare he’s created over the years (watch The Dark Knight online for just one), it’s amazing this is his first time.
“I came to see what all the fuss was about, and judging by the crowd, I’m not disappointed,” said Nolan to the standing and cheering faithful.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of science fiction. I’d grown up being amazed by science fiction of the past, obviously Star Wars and 2001. These are things that made an incredible impression on me. But more than that, I grew up in an era when to be an astronaut was the highest ambition of any child.”
A longtime proponent of seeing movies on the big screen, Nolan stressed how he hoped that audiences wouldn’t wait for a film such as Interstellar to arrive in other formats.
“You need the biggest canvas possible.”
Even though many that have worked on Interstellar say it is Nolan’s most ambitious movie yet, the helmer did not tip his cap in any way to tease the audience as to what they will be in for in terms of what it took him to make it.
“I’m not going to tell you what the technical challenges are because I want you to come see the movie,” Nolan added.
