Given all the violent mayhem that is The Expendables and The Expendables 2, it is not surprising that those two movies earned an R-rating from the MPAA. Sylvester Stallone has said that he hoped The Expendables 3 would earn a PG-13 in order to get more people in the seats.
He has gotten his wish as the third chapter in the aging action heroes who get back in action series was tapped with a PG-13 rating from the MPAA for “violence, including intense sustained gun battles and fight scenes, and for language.”
As seen in The Expendables 3 trailer, the film has added Harrison Ford, Antonio Banderas, Wesley Snipes and Mel Gibson, but it appears to have subtracted a bit of the bloody violence that earned previous films an R.
We’ll see if this does translate into more dollars at the box office with a wider audience being able to see the action flick. Given how well the previous two movies have done, we wonder if this move is brilliant on Stallone’s part, or just greedy. Honestly, we would not bet against Sly... like ever.
