Will Emperor Palpatine Be in Star Wars Spin-Offs?

Ian McDiarmid famously played Senator Palpatine, who would become Emperor Plapatine, in the Star Wars films. Now, we all know and this really isn’t a spoiler, that he perishes at the end of Return of the Jedi.

But, given how the spin-off films are going in an origins directions, is it possible that the man who gave us the devilishly fantastical way of saying “your friends” will be back?

“I’m definitely not in Episode VII. As you know, he’s dead by then! I know, we believe in reincarnation, and holograms,” he said to a gathering at London Film and Comic-Con event.

Given that Josh Trank and Gareth Edwards have been hired to pen spin-offs that we think will focus on Boba Fett and Han Solo, i.e. a world where Palpatine still rules the universe, there is a huge possibility that our favorite emperor will be back.

“They are going to take many twists on the story as the years go on, and I guess they may go back to a time,” he said. “I’m speaking off the top of my head -- [of] when the Emperor ran the universe. And I don’t want anyone else to play him, do I?"

He is clearly one of our favorite characters in the Star Wars universe, the ones in the below slideshow however, are not.

Star Wars Quotes

Darth Vader: Where is Padme? Is she safe? Is she all right?
Darth Sidious: It seems in your anger... you killed her.
Darth Vader: I... I couldn't have! She was alive; I felt it... I... Nooooooo!

Supreme Chancellor: Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis "the wise"?
Anakin Skywalker: No.
Supreme Chancellor: I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. It's a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life... He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying.
Anakin Skywalker: He could actually save people from death?
Supreme Chancellor: The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.
Anakin Skywalker: What happened to him?
Supreme Chancellor: He became so powerful... the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. It's ironic he could save others from death, but not himself.
