When this weekend’s box office showed that Guardians of the Galaxy was the top movie of the summer, it wasn’t done. Walt Disney Pictures has announced that the Marvel movie from director James Gunn has now passed the coveted $500 million mark in global gross… and it’s not done!

Not only does it possess some awesome Guardians of the Galaxy quotes, but a story that has millions lining up to see the film across the world. And it hasn’t even opened yet in big markets such as Italy, China (a huge one!), Japan and Germany.

When it was released August 1, Guardians of the Galaxy became Marvel Studios’ tenth straight number one movie and established a record for an August release with its $94.3 million in box office sales.

At Comic-Con, they announced that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was green lit, and in hindsight, is that such a surprise?

And in news that shows that the film has moved beyond movies to the world of pop culture as a whole, the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack now celebrates its second week atop the Billboard album sales charts.
