The movie world practically exploded when news arrived that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were working on their first film together -- By the Sea -- since the one that initially got them together, Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
Most newlyweds celebrate by taking off to exotic locales for some R&R, but Jolie and Pitt marked their wedding by releasing their first photos from By the Sea to Entertainment Weekly.
Jolie wrote, directed, produced and stars in the film that follows a couple living in 1970s France (their adopted real life home) and follows their marriage as it slowly, but surely, falls apart. But, it appears that there is hope.
Jolie is a former dancer and Pitt is an American writer and the two meet in a seaside community in a hotel to try to make one last go at saving their marriage. They share stories of their life together with new friends and in the process, may discover that theirs is a love worth saving.
Jolie told EW what it was about the story that not only compelled her to put pen to paper, but to serve as her third directorial effort (her second is teased in the powerful Unbroken trailer).
“I chose to set By the Sea in the 1970s, not only because it is a colorful and alluring era, but because it removes many of the distractions of contemporary life and allows the focus to remain squarely on the emotions that the characters experience in their journey,” Jolie said.
