When Dredd arrived in 2012 we were completely taken by the Karl Urban characterization of the graphic novel character (check out our Dredd review). We were a little disappointed that audiences didn’t turn out in droves because it was one of the better action/sci-fi flicks of that year.
Now, we’ve got word from Urban himself that there might be a possibility we’d see him back in the suit and mask, but not in a sequel… and we love the sound of it.
Urban has been the franchise’s biggest supporter and rightfully so. As he told us in our Dredd Karl Urban interview, he adored the graphic novels as a kid and it was his dream to appear as Dredd on the big screen.
He believes in this character and thinks there is still an audience for it. So, what does the future hold?
Ironically, it will be a look back -- according to Urban. “It’s a definite possibility,” Urban told Chicago Comic-Con about the idea of a prequel.
"It's more likely that we'll do the Origins story, with Dredd trekking through the Cursed Earth to find the first Chief Judge Fargo."
Count us in, Urban! Until then, see what it is we love so much about this flick and watch Dredd online.
