Weekend Movie Preview: September 5, 2014

This first Weekend Movie Preview of September is actually surprisingly quiet.

There are no wide release movies opening today, so let's take a look at some of the recent offerings from Hollywood studios that are sure to entertain.

As Above/So Below: The found footage genre gets a shot in the arm of originality with this story of a group of explorers who venture down below the streets of Paris to the famed catacombs and find much more than they bargained for.

As we stated in our As Above/So Below review, the film is whip smart and is not simply a scare-fest as there's a bit of history and science to add to your terror.

If I Stay: Chloe Grace Moretz makes an announcement in this terrific adaptation of the bestselling YA book, our If I Stay review pointed out.

Moretz plays a young girl who appears to have it all. She is on the verge of heading off to the best music college in the country and has a boyfriend who is the stuff of dreams. Then, she has a car crash and winds up in a coma, where she must re-evaluate her life and decide whether to stay... or let go.

Life of Crime: Elmore Leonard fans, rejoice! Jennifer Aniston and John Hawkes put on a clinic in the latest Leonard crime novel to make it to the big screen.

Our Life of Crime review pointed out that it is not the best of Leonard's page to screen efforts, but this prequel (of sorts) to Jackie Brown sure does please.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Sure, it's been over a month since this Marvel movie came out, but honestly, there is no better film out in cinemas right now.

As our Guardians of the Galaxy review pointed out, this film that has been the number one film for the last two weeks is so good, it surpasses comic book movie great and enters the realm of early Oscar contenders. Yeah, seriously.

Feel like staying home this weekend?
