Is Robert Downey Jr. in Captain America 3? Civil War Likely!

Remember last week when Robert Downey Jr. confirmed he would be in Iron Man 4, and then told David Letterman that there was no Iron Man 4, but that Marvel was working on something else? Well, now we (think) we know what that “something else” is.

Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans in The Avengers

Variety is reporting that Downey will be joining the cast of Captain America 3 and that the storyline will follow a popular comic series in the Marvel universe that is called Civil War. It appears that the fallout from Avengers: Age of Ultron will be massive and it will leave much destruction and will split our team into two groups -- which will lead to the confrontation of Iron Man and Captain America in Cap’s third cinematic outing.

Wow, right?!

Also, Marvel announced in the last 24 hours that a new Civil War comic book would be released next summer. Coincidence? Hardly!

We’re also getting word that not only will Anthony and Joe Russo be back for Captain America 3, after their stellar work on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but that the sibling director duo will take over for Joss Whedon for The Avengers 3 – further adding fuel to the fire of this Civil War that will start happening by the closing credits of Captain America 3.

Look for Captain America 3 on May 6, 2016, and until then, watch Captain America: The Winter Soldier online
