Jeremy Renner (the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron) plays Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Gary Webb in Kill the Messenger in this astounding film that lands October 10.
It was Webb and his San Jose newspaper that broke the story of how the CIA was helping funnel drugs into Central America to raise cash to fight the communist insurgency in that area. And Webb paid dearly for it. Large city newspapers were jealous of his ability to break a story they couldn’t and the U.S. government would not stand idly by and let their methods be scrutinized. So, collectively, they tried to ruin him.
We’ve got two clips from Kill the Messenger -- the first features Renner with co-stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Oliver Platt as his editors.
The second clip comes right from the books that the film was inspired by, Dark Alliance by Webb and Kill the Messenger by Nick Schou. He’s “threatened” by none other than the CIA!
