When it comes to Terminator: Genisys, we’ve gone back and forth between calling it Terminator 5, a sequel, or a reboot. Given how there is a new cast of characters, including Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, it appears to be a reboot. But, Arnold Schwarzenegger is in it as the character that made him a movie icon, so that sounds like a sequel. So, which is it?
Courtney is talking about the highly anticipated film that we think makes summer 2015 the best of all time, and admits that the truth about Terminator: Genisys is a little of both.
"What I can say is that we start in a place we're familiar with from the early films and then, you know, circumstances change,” Courtney told The Huffington Post.
“It somewhat shifts the course of events from that point. It's not necessarily a sequel or a reboot. I don't even know how you brand it correctly. We're not remaking one of the early Terminator movies. And it doesn't necessarily carry on from the point where we left off."
Then, he jumped over to the definitive Schwarzenegger fan publication, The Arnold Fans, for a chat and shed some light on the former Governator’s role in Terminator: Genisys, and even talked about those Terminator: Genisys sequels and timing!
"Hard to imagine a Terminator film without Arnold,” Courtney admitted. “I guess we start filming - I think the plan is do the next two back to back in 2016."
Look for Terminator: Genisys in theaters July 1, 2015. The flick also stars Jason Clarke as John Connor, Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, as well as J.K. Simmons, Byung Hun Lee, Dayo Okeniyi and Matt Smith.
