Adam Sandler tries for another departure in the compelling-looking The Cobbler and the film’s trailer has premiered.
The drama from director Tom McCarthy (the stellar The Visitor and The Station Agent) stars Sandler as the titular character. His shop is doing OK, but he is not setting the world on fire and his dreams were always much larger.
Then one day, someone brings in a pair of shoes and through a series of events, he discovers that when he puts on his customers' shoes, he can become them and live in their world.
After Sandler’s comedies have not done so well of late (Jack and Jill, That’s My Boy), this looks like a nice change for the SNL veteran. The film combines drama, fantasy and, yes, a bit of comedy.
The Cobbler also stars Dustin Hoffman, Ellen Barkin, Dan Stevens and Cliff “Method Man” Smith.
Watch Blended online and there's Sandler branching out into the world of family comedy-romance that suits him quite nicely.
