Tim Burton could not have been too surprised that while he’s out promoting Big Eyes (out December 25), the director would get a whole lot of inquisitive people wanting to know the status of Beetlejuice 2. So, with the news that Michael Keaton will return to Beetlejuice and Winona Ryder is more than up to return to her role, what did the esteemed director have to say when asked if it is indeed coming?
"Oh yeah," he told MTV. And what about that rumor that Miss Ryder will be returning?
"Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh yeah, oh yeah. Yeah, yeah, oh yeah."
Looks like by all those “yeahs” that Beetlejuice 2 is happening and that it is on the busy director’s docket for the future. He’s got that Alice in Wonderland sequel that he’s producing (not directing), and we all know that that leaves room to work on that Keaton follow-up to one of his most iconic characters (we’d put him up there with Batman, no?).
And it appears that Burton agrees as he will not make a Beetlejuice movie without the recent Golden Globe nominee for Birdman.
"Let’s put it this way, there is only one Beetlejuice for sure. And [the script] is pretty good. And I haven’t really yet spoken to [Michael Keaton] because he is out on his awards campaign so you can’t get to him now."
Watch Beetlejuice online and get ready for that sequel, whenever it does appear.
