The second we heard that the fifth go-around for Johnny Depp as Captain Jack would be called Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales, we were honestly excited. That phrase has a long history in the Pirates world, and with the return of Orlando Bloom, that excitement meter inched ever higher. But, with comments that Bloom recently made about the franchise, we’re not sure what to think.
Is it a reboot?
“Basically they want to reboot the whole franchise, I think, and do something with me and the relationship with my son… I’m of course Davey Jones now, so I’m down the bottom of the ocean,” Bloom told IGN.
Clearly the actor, who you can see next in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, is looking forward to it.
“It might be kind of fun to do something where I’m rumbling round the bottom of the ocean, because I won’t look anything like me. [Gestures to face] Get all gnarly.”
Look for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales on July 7, 2017 with Depp returning as Captain Jack, but also with Geoffrey Rush back as Captain Barbossa and Javier Bardem joining the fold as our villain, Captain Brand. And it seems that Brand’s a little upset about the death of his brother at the hands of good ole Captain Jack.
