One of the most powerful stories you will see in 2014 is Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken. It’s a true tale that we cannot believe has never been made into a film.
In a new featurette released by Universal Pictures, we see how exactly it took its long and winding road to the big screen and even how an enormous star of the Golden Age of Hollywood who was once attached to portray its subject, Louis Zamperini.
Director Jolie and the relatives of Zamperini all chime in on the struggle to bring this inspiriting life to the medium of film and how it took author Laura Hillenbrand (Seabiscuit) to put his story in book form in 2010 for it to finally catch fire as even a possibility of a movie.
As teased in the Unbroken trailer, the story of Zamperini could have been three different movies! It is a testament to Jolie’s storytelling abilities that it works as a single tribute to a true American hero.
Zamperini was an Olympic gold medal winning runner. He was a World War II airman who survived for 47 days stranded at sea when his plane crashed. He would then be rescued… by the Japanese and spend years in a prisoner of war camp.
Don’t miss Unbroken when it arrives in cinemas December 25.
