In news that should surprise absolutely no one, Universal has announced that it has green lit the two sequels for Fifty Shades of Grey. The first film, starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, arrives on screens February 13 and fans of the EL James book that is leaping to the big screen can go in confident they’ll see cinematic versions of Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed.
Universal celebrated the announcement by releasing two new TV trailers -- the first features Beyonce’s single Haunted.
Experts have Fifty Shades of Grey tracking at almost $80 million, which should take it close to the decade-plus record set by Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ. That flick’s $83 million haul has stood the test of time for a February movie.
Anyone else find it incredibly ironic that a movie about the last days of Jesus Christ would be unseated by a “romance” movie about a couple exploring S&M?!
Speaking of romance, Valentine’s Day is the title of the second TV trailer that debuted!
It was also recently announced that Fifty Shades of Grey got a rating of “R,” for “strong sexual content including dialogue, some unusual behavior and graphic nudity, and for language.” So, there’s that.
"Unusual behavior?" Wonder if any of that arises out of this Fifty Shades of Grey clip?!
No word on release dates for the two sequels, but if we were to guess, they’ll be coming at screens sooner than later.
