Cameras are rolling on the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has started shooting in Queensland, Australia with Johnny Depp as one of his most beloved characters, Captain Jack.
Kon-Tiki directors Espen Sandberg and Joachim Ronning are helming this installment, under the watchful eye of producer Jerry Bruckheimer. The franchise has banked almost $3.7 billion so far and we suspect it may add close to a billion more to that total when Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales lands in theaters July 7, 2017.
Disney and Bruckheimer films have also released the film’s plot synopsis, so we finally have an idea what this one will be about!
Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil's Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea...including him. Captain Jack's only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.
The Maze Runner star Kaya Scodelario and Maleficent’s breakout star Brenton Thwaites join in on the fun with returning favorites Geoffrey Rush, Kevin R. McNally and Stephen Graham.
Noticeably absent from this release is news that Orlando Bloom will be back. But, from what he has said, we suspect he will return.
