The middle weekend in May has brought not one, but two highly anticipated movies from the summer movie canon. First up is Mad Max: Fury Road, which finds writer-director George Miller bringing us his fourth Mad Max movie and his first in decades.
Next up is the film that has Pitch Perfect fans all sorts of aca-excited, Pitch Perfect 2.
Let’s break it down…
Mad Max Fury Road: Tom Hardy steps into Mel Gibson’s boots in Miller’s fourth Max film that is easily his best. Max joins Charlize Theron’s Furiosa’s effort to free a group of women who have been held captive by an evil warlord in Australia’s post-apocalyptic Outback.
As our Mad Max: Fury Road review stated, you will be hard-pressed to find a better movie out this summer. In fact, it may just be one of the best action movies ever made. It is stunning to look at, and it packs an emotional punch, all while the action comes at you at 80 miles-per-hour. Hardy makes a great Max and is a worthy successor to Gibson. And Theron is nothing short of a movie miracle.
Pitch Perfect 2: It is hard to capture lightning twice, but somehow, the folks behind Pitch Perfect 2 have done it. Anna Kendrick and her Barden Bellas are back, and the action picks up three years after the last film. They are three-time national champs, and after a little scandal gets them banned from competition, they find a loophole. Win the international competition and they can be reinstated.
Our Pitch Perfect 2 review reported that for fans of the first film, you should be more than aca-excited for the directorial debut of Elizabeth Banks. The ensemble is tighter than ever. The heartwarming moments are as strong as ever and don’t get us started on that soundtrack!
Watch Pitch Perfect online to get ready for the big sequel. And if you feel like staying in this weekend, a so bad it’s good flick has arrived on digital download -- watch Fifty Shades of Grey online.
