Paul Reubens, a.k.a Pee-Wee Herman, first created his character Pee-wee when he did a statge show in 1981. HBO filmed the show and made it a special on September 11, 1981. In 1985, Reubens wrote and starred in the Tim Burton-directed Pee-Wee Herman movie, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.
Reubens then found himself with new-found fame and a television show, Pee-Wee's Playhouse and a movie sequel, Big Top Pee-Wee. However, in 1991, Reubens was arrested for masturbating publicly in an adult theater and reruns of his show instantly stopped and Reubens retired the Pee-Wee personae and resumed his acting career as Paul Reubens.
In his film career, Reubens had roles in Batman Returns, The Nightmore Before Christmas, Dunston Checks In, Matilda, Mystery Men, and Blow. Reubens has also made numerous television appearances in shows such as Ally McBeal, Reno 911!, and 30 Rock.
Reubens will be bring back Pee-Wee for a new movie to come out in 2009.
