Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father is about a man, John Gotti, who lived by the mob code, and his son chose a different life completely outside the mob world.
John was the head of the Gambino crime family, which was the largest and most powerful of the crime families in the country at the time. He died in 2002 from cancer, while serving a life sentence in prison. When he died, his son Gotti Jr. became the heir to the Gamino family. However, six years prior to that, Gotti Jr. told his father that he did not want to be a part of the business that his family belonged to.
After his father's death, Gotti Jr. served nine years in prison on three different sentences, and was release in 2009.
