Francis Ford Coppola was born in Detroit, Michigan and got his start in the film industry in the early 1960s making low budget films and writing screen plays. 

Coppola's career really took off in the 1970s when he want an Academy Award for his his creenplay for Patton, directed and co-wrote The Godfather and Part II, produced George Lucas' American Graffiti, and produced and directed Apocalypse Now.

Coppola's most successful film during the 1980s was his film adapatation of The Outsiders.  Additionally, Coppola can be proud to have brought the world Captain EO, the Michael Jackson 3-D movie for the Disney theme parks.

During the 90s, Coppola tried his hand at the Godfather trilogy one more time with a part 3 and released Bram Stroker's Dracula.

Coppola now, besides working on his Vineyard, is working on the movie Tetro.
