1. Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast
In order for the Beast to stop being so beastly, he must find someone who loves him for who he truly is. He finds that in Belle, as we all know. But, think about that. She falls for... a Beast! Yeah, we'd say that's unconventional!

2. Edward Scissorhands

Edward Scissorhands
Winona Ryder may have loved Johnny Depp in real life, but in Edward Scissorhands, there was a lot she had to get past. Like, how do you cuddle with a guy who has scissors for hands? And that is just the tip of the iceberg in this oddly compelling unconventional romance.

3. Harold and Maude

Harold and Maude
Just look at the poster and that's all you need to know about this boyfriend-girlfriend tale. And yes, it's one of our favorite movies as well... romance or otherwise.

4. Starman

Karen Allen is "kidnapped" by an alien who has taken the form of her dead husband (Jeff Bridges). But, over the course of the film she truly falls for him and it's not just because he looks like her lost love. Bridges gives the performance of a lifetime that has us falling for the guy!

5. Brokeback Mountain

Brokeback Mountain
Brokeback Mountain is one of the best movies of all time, romance or otherwise. And the fact that the hearts going pitter patter belong to two men is not what makes it unconventional. What makes it so is the riveting story told by director Ang Lee. It's complicated... is an understatement.

6. Wall-E

Wall-E is one of the most romantic movies of all time, we feel, and it comes in the strangest of forms. But just seeing those two fall for each other over the course of Pixar's movie reminds us that love is blind, but also never wrong when it's right.
