13 Horrific Facts About Friday the 13th

Friday the 13th is one of those movies that we just can't shake. Perhaps it's because every time the calendar says "Friday the 13th," it reminds us of that horror classic.

In honor of the day that continues to terrify us, we present a baker's dozen of fun facts, er, horrific facts, about Friday the 13th!

1. Would You Go To This Camp?

If Friday the 13th had a real camp feel, that's because it was shot at a real functioning camp in New Jersey. In fact, Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco in the Garden State still operates! Would you send your children to the camp where such horror (fictionally) occurred? No. Way.

2. That Snake Was Real!

That famous snake scene that still gives us the heebeegeebees was not in the script. It came from a real life experience that Tom Savini (special effects supervisor) had while filming the movie in his own cabin! That line about no animals were hurt in the filming of this movie does not apply here because that snake was real and so was its demise.

3. Tribute to Halloween? Or Rip-Off?

Story creator Victor Miller has said repeatedly that his flick was a direct effort to capitalize on the hit horror film from the year prior, Halloween.

4. Jason’s First Name

When Miller wrote the script, Jason’s name was originally Josh. But, he decided that was not scary enough (it isn’t) and so he paid tribute to a bully from school and renamed him Jason.

5. Miller Moves On

Speaking volumes as to how scary soap operas are, after writing the film, writer Miller went on to write for Guiding Light and One Life to Live. Scary indeed!
