13 Worthy Movie Remakes

by at .  Updated at . Comments

If it seems that Hollywood has gone remake crazy, it is because they have.

There are at least several remakes landing in theaters each month, for better or worse.

Click through and check 13 that are not only worthy remakes, but in some cases... even better than the original.

1. Scarface

Scarface showed us that Al Pacino can do anything -- even play a Cuban immigrant who takes the American Dream by any means necessary. Brian De Palma crafted a powerful and haunting picture that made us forget all about the 1932 genre-defining flick while we were watching it.

2. Cape Fear

Cape Fear
If you're going to do a remake, why not employ Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro?! This is one remake that sends the creepy meter higher.

3. The Departed

The Departed
The Departed finally gave Martin Scorsese his Oscar for Best Director. The movie also won Best Picture. Now, that's how you remake 2002's Infernal Affairs.

4. Ocean's Eleven

Ocean's Eleven
The Rat Pack enthralled audiences in 1960, but there was something about Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon and their crew that took it to a whole new level of awesome. We suspect that has everything to do with director Steven Soderbergh.

5. The Italian Job

The Italian Job
That Mini car chase... that's all we have to say! Michael Caine and his 1969 The Italian Job met their match in this hard to believe improvement of the original due to the smallest of cars and so much more.

6. The Thing

The Thing
John Carpenter crafted a film icon all its own with 1982's The Thing. Kurt Russell was our guide to a horror story we will never forget. Sure, the 1951 Howard Hawks film is great, but Carpenter chilled us to our bones.
