15 Fantastic 2014 Movies You Haven’t Seen

by at .  Updated at . Comments

2014 has been a fantastic year for movies, but there are over a dozen that we think are among the best of the year -- that have honestly failed to find an audience... yet!

We name 15 of our favorite 2014 movies that could easily find themselves nominated for Best Picture and at the least make our top 15 of 2014.

Who's on the list and which movies do you need to run out and see before 2014 becomes 2015?

Click through and discover our 15 2014 movies you need to see!

1. Birdman

Birdman
Birdman, let's just say this: Michael Keaton will win his first Oscar for his role as a former superhero movie star who is staging a comeback on Broadway. The fact that the film has only made $12 million at the box office tells us that not enough people have seen it. Run, don't walk, and go see Birdman.

2. Snowpiercer

Snowpiercer
Snowpiercer will no doubt be on our tops of 2014 list. The Chris Evans-starring film is the most original sci-fi flick we've seen in years. And given that sci-fi fans love seeing films on the big screen, we're utterly clueless as to why this flick has only banked $4.6 million since it debuted.

3. Whiplash

Whiplash
Whiplash is our best film of the year (so far). There is no question that JK Simmons will WIN the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as a tormenting jazz music teacher who makes Miles Teller's life miserable. We have never been to a screening where a room full of journalists uttered the same thing as the screen went blank at the end. "Holy (expletive)!" Yeah, that. How has this movie only made $2.4 million?!

4. The Raid 2

The Raid 2
If Snowpiercer is the year's best sci-fi flick, then The Raid 2 is the year's best action movie. Critics agree with Movie Fanatic on this one, yet audiences have been a no-show as it only made $2.6 million. This one is out on DVD and Blu-Ray, so make sure you see it!

5. Kill the Messenger

Kill the Messenger
Jeremy Renner gives the performance of his career in Kill the Messenger. The story is tragic on so many levels, not the least of which is the fact that this true story exposes what our government did to fight communism and it was not pretty. Only $2.4 million since its October debut? This movie should scream Oscar, but not unless people see it. So... go find it!

6. The Drop

The Drop
James Gandolfini in his last film role wasn't enough to get audiences into theaters to witness one of the year's best, and one of Gandolfini's best performances. The crime drama also stars a riveting Tom Hardy and will leave you with your jaw dropped at its power. $10 million total for this thrill ride? That's the real crime!
