Top 14 Super Bowl Trailers

by at .  Updated at . Comments

The Super Bowl has come and gone and from what we heard, it was a good game between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.

But, with 14 movie trailers premiering either during the pre-game or during the game itself, Movie Fanatic was a little preoccupied by all the movie teasing awesomeness.

We rank the 14 movie trailers in order of our favorites, and why each sits in the position it does.

Click through and discover our top 14 Super Bowl movie trailers. Who's number one?

14. Minions

It's easy to have this one start off our countdown -- it wasn't really a trailer. It was, in many ways, a teaser for the debut of the next Minions trailer that will land on Tuesday. But, we still adore our favorite part of the Despicable Me movies cheering on a sporting event, and then losing their overalls!

13. Hot Tub Time Machine 2

The play on the Patriots' “deflategate” scandal is timely and, most importantly, funny. Well done, Paramount, well done.

12. Terminator: Genisys

Got to say we’re a little disappointed in the Super Bowl trailer for Terminator: Genisys. It seemed like it was quickly put together and didn’t really show us too many scenes that we hadn’t seen before, like that Golden Gate bridge bus crash. The big save? The self aware humor at Arnold’s most famous line at the end -- Arnold: I’ll be back… Emilia Clarke: What?!

11. Seventh Son

The long-delayed action fantasy reminded us why it matters with a powerful and visually eye-popping trailer that showed off Jeff Bridges, Ben Barnes and Julianne Moore in the medieval story that arrives in merely days. That too was a smart move by the studio -- what a way to remind people of an often delayed flick by shelling out Super Bowl commercial cash for a big game advertisement.

10. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water

After seeing the flick earlier this week, few trailers that premiered during the big game truly captured the spirit of the movie like the one for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. It is about teamwork, it really is.

9. Unfinished Business

Vince Vaughn, Dave Franco and Tom Wilkinson starring as business associates on a biz trip to Europe for a make-it-or-break-it deal? Yes, please. And Wilkinson in a Vaughn comedy, that could be a stroke of genius.
