Nathan Lane was born in Jersey City and was awarded a scholarship to study at St. Jospeh's College in Philadelphia.  However, when Lane found out the scholarship didn't cover enough of the money, he left and moved to New York City to take on acting full time.  In 1982, he made his Broadway debut in Present Laughter.   In 1992, Lane received his first Tony nomination for his role in Guys and Dolls.

Lane's first big role on the big screen was as the voice as Timon in Disney's hit, The Lion King in 1994.  As his broadway career was in full swing, Lane then got a starring role in The Birdcage alongside Robin Williams.   The actor, who is homosexual in real life, played Williams' lover in this classic movie.  Lane would return to voice work as Snowbell in the Stuart Little trilogy.

However, Nathan Lane's biggest claim to fame was when he co-starred alongside Matthew Broderick in a Broadway version of Mel Brooks' The Producers.  He won his second Tony Award for his role and the two later starred in a movie remake.
