"I think you're going to be an American hero."
"I'm not even a American."
Will Smith stars in Concussion, a dramatic thriller based on the incredible true David vs. Goliath story of American immigrant Dr. Bennet Omalu, the brilliant forensic neuropathologist who made the first discovery of CTE, a football-related brain trauma, in a pro player and fought for the truth to be known. Omalu’s emotional quest puts him at dangerous odds with one of the most powerful institutions in the world.
I'm not sure if Dr. Omalu is an American hero or not, but this movie looks pretty damned good. If you recall, when this movie was first announced, there was a lot of hullabaloo about it because the NFL doesn't necessarily agree with it. Or something.
Now even this trailer makes it appear as if when Dr. Omalu was doing his research, nobody wanted him to search too hard at all.
Outside the cast of Will Smith, you'll also see David Morse, Albert Brooks, Luke Wilson, Alec Baldwin and more. Others who appear in the film include Stephen Moyer (The Bastard Executioner), Bitsie Tulloch (Grimm) and Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan).
On a personal note, I'm very excited that this is another movie filmed in Pittsburgh, where I happen to live at the moment. It's always nice seeing our city showcased. It's quite beautiful and the bridges are something to behold.
This film will open on Christmas Day.
